Water tender operators and stakeside drivers need a valid Commercial Driver's License.

Seasonal & On-Call

Fire season is June–September (can extend). When dispatched, you must be ready to leave within 12–24 hours for assignments up to 14 days.

Physical Demands

This work takes place in remote terrain, extreme heat, smoke, and dust. You need to be physically fit and mentally tough.

Water Tender Operator

CDL Required $500–$700/day

Operate water tenders for fire suppression, mop-up, and structure protection. You'll be running on forest roads and firelines delivering water where it's needed. Must be comfortable driving large vehicles on rough, unpaved roads in smoky conditions.

Excavator Operator

$500–$700/day

Operate excavators with standard buckets and masticator heads for fireline construction, hazard tree removal, and fuels reduction. Experience with forestry work and operating in steep terrain is preferred.

Dozer Operator

$500–$700/day

Operate bulldozers for cutting fireline, building fuel breaks, and clearing access roads. You'll be working in steep, rugged terrain β€” often on the edge of active fire. Prior dozer experience required.

Excavator Support / Swamper

$300–$400/day

Work alongside the excavator operator β€” clearing debris, spotting hazards, maintaining communication, and keeping the work area safe. Physically demanding ground work in rough terrain.

Dozer Support / Swamper

$300–$400/day

Support the dozer operator on the fireline β€” scout the line ahead, flag hazards, clear obstacles, and maintain communication with the operator and overhead. You're the operator's eyes and ears on the ground.

Pickup Truck Driver

$300–$500/day

Drive pickup trucks and stakeside vehicles for crew transport, supply runs, and logistics. Includes driving on forest roads and around active fire areas. Some positions may require a CDL for stakeside trucks.

Chipper Crew Leader

$400–$500/day

Lead a chipper crew on fuels reduction and post-fire cleanup operations. Responsible for crew safety, production, and coordination with overhead. Prior leadership experience on a fireline or in forestry preferred.

Chipper Crew Member

$300–$400/day

Work as part of a chipper crew β€” feeding brush, bucking limbs, clearing slash, and keeping the operation moving. This is hard physical labor in the heat and smoke. You need to be fit and willing to work long hours.

Clerical / Trailer Staff

$300–$400/day

Handle administrative and logistical duties from the operations trailer on a fire assignment. Responsibilities include paperwork, timekeeping, resource tracking, and communication with dispatch and overhead teams.
